Jobs’ Amenability to Working from Home: Evidence from Skills Surveys for 53 Countries

We use skills surveys from 53 countries to estimate jobs’ amenability working home (WFH). Our measure combines data on self-reported characteristics and internet access into a standardized measure. find that WFH increases with economic development. Women, college graduates, salaried formal workers have jobs are more amenable than the average. The opposite holds for in hotels restaurants, construction, agriculture, commerce. validate our using longitudinal Chile showing correlates negatively job losses between 2019 2020 positively observed share of who worked 2020. Finally, occupations explain less one third variability its components, highlighting importance individual-level assess WFH. JEL Classification Codes: J22; J61; O30
